Admissions

Pupils Admissions- The closing date for Y7 September 2025 is 31st October 2024

Important dates:

Sunday 1 September 2024 – Apply from this date

School places are not allocated on a first come, first served basis. All applications received up to the closing date are given equal priority, but if you miss the deadline, a late application may reduce your chance of getting your preference of school.

Thursday 31 October 2024 – National closing date for secondary applications (statutory).

During this period all applications are processed, and all preferences are considered against the published admissions policy. Where there are more applications than places available, decisions are made as to which children should be offered the available places. We will liaise and exchange information with all other admission authorities including neighbouring local authorities. The allocation and offer of a secondary school place is finalised.

Monday 3 March 2025 – Offers issued to parents

(The national offer date is 1 March, if this date falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, offers are sent the next working day.)

Families who are not successful in securing their chosen secondary school for their child, when notified in March, can opt to be included on a waiting list for Year 7  and /or begin the appeals process. The closing date for appeals for Y7 place September 2025 is 22nd March 2025.

Applying for place at our school during the school year (In-Year Admissions)

In Year Admissions are admissions to school which take place outside the normal admissions rounds  [for Year 7].

If you are new to the area and require a school place or if you already reside in the area and you want to move your child from their current local school to our school, your application should be made directly to our school and the child will be admitted where there are available places.

Applying for a place with us

To apply for a place, please complete our In-Year Admissions form,  and return to jsharpe@bowland.atctrust.org.uk

If you have any questions in relation to in-year admissions, please contact us either by email at enquiries@bowland.atctrust.org.uk or by telephone 01200441374

You may ring the school office to confirm that the form (and accompanying evidence) has been received.

Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt and we will advise you of the outcome within a maximum of 15 school days.

Where places are available but we have more applications than places, the published over subscription criteria will be applied, to ensure the correct child/children are offered the places.

If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list and you have the right of appeal.   Please see below for appeal information. Please note, that the waiting list does NOT guarantee a place at our school and if your child is currently not in education you should either make an appeal to our school and/or apply for a place at an alternative school.

Further information on how to apply for a local school can be found on the Lancashire County Council website: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/apply-for-a-school-place/changing-schools-during-the-school-year/

Appeals

The school’s admission appeals are supported by Lancashire County Council. If the Governing body cannot offer a school place, parents have the right to make an appeal.

This appeal should be submitted using the link below within twenty days of refusal of admission. The appeal provides you with an opportunity to explain why you wish to register your child at our school. The appeal forms and advice on how to complete them is available on the Lancashire County Council website:

https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/appeal-against-an-admission-decision/primary-school-appeals/

LINK (Please follow to the online appeal form)

Once the e-form is completed on-line it will automatically generate through to the schools e-mail address. You will also get a copy of the completed application form with an automated ID number for the appeal.

Lancashire County Council will contact you in respect of your appeal application and inform you of the arrangements. The outcome of the appeal will be notified to you in writing.

The decision of the Independent Appeal Panel is binding to all parties, ie the family and the school.

Please note that this right of appeal against the Governors’ decision does not prevent you from making an appeal in respect of any other school.

Appeals for admissions into Year 7 September 2025-2026 must be returned to Bowland High for the attention of Mrs J Sharpe by Friday 21st March 2025. You should also telephone pupil access 01254 220747 to add your child’s name to the Y7 waiting list.

School Charging

In accordance with the law, the school does not charge for admission, education which takes place during school hours, education which forms part of the National Curriculum, materials, books and equipment or visits taking place in school time.

Charges can be made for visits or activities during school holidays, totally outside school hours, or more than 50% of the time outside school hours. The restrictions that are placed upon charging for school activities do not prevent the school from asking for voluntary contributions.  Without these voluntary contributions many activities that are the norm for this school may not be possible

Our admission criteria can be found in our admissions policy.
